Hi Jon,

Thanks for giving me more information on this topic. Keith Ferrazzi's videos contain many useful points such as be open, transparent, information-providing, genuine... which I appreciate a lot! Still, the most important thing perhaps lies in the change of our attitude towards networking.

Best regards,
Lingxue

Hi Lingxue,

Thanks for your comments. As you've already said, best to go into these "official networking" events without any agenda but to try and have good conversations. If you're interested in more on this topic, there's a guru that gives great tips - Keith Ferrazzi. You can check out a few of his video clips on YouTube or his books.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon,

I like your point of view. To be honest, I don't like the word "networking", either. Whenever I attend a networking session with a networking mind, I feel like I bear some tasks. It makes me unnatural. What's worse, people tend to pretend to be interested in what you're talking about and forget right away when a new conversation starts because they think you are simply trying and "networking".

P.S. Ive noticed that you are really fast in response, mostly within the same day. That's cool!

It's Swapna! And you're Jon Kwan!

Hehe. You have SEO working on "cutc foundation", which I googled after checking out who was checking out my profile on Linkedin! Hehehe.

Anyway, I looked at a couple articles here. Looks like you have some interesting thoughts here, though you haven't updated it in a while.

Good luck!

lol...good to see that the advice you're been hearing is consistent. :) Eric, the speaker that you heard earlier discussing networking tips is actually a friend of mine and we also collaborate together. Small world.

"Forget Networking and start mingling" reminds me of one of the career talks I attended, by a young and experienced entrepreneur and speaker like you. The speaker emphasized the importance of paying genuine interest in people during social networking session, and highlighted to us that the most important part of networking is about maintaining contact after the networking. Your article also stresses the same point. In Chinese, we call that "Ying xiong suo jian lue tong" 英雄所见略同 :) (heroes share the like minds, a direct translation)
